THE Lens Design Conference
Make every effort to go to International Optical Design Conference in June 2010 [14th-18th] . This is the premiere lens design meeting - sponsored by OSA & SPIE - it occurs only once every four years. All the leading designers are present, so it’s a brilliant chance to met friends, discuss problems, find creative solutions and see the industry direction. It’s also a great opportunity to meet the software engineers who make your life such a joy/misery and give them your plaudits or brickbats as appropriate.
As always there will be an optical design contest, so sharpen up your pencils, warm up your computers and become top designer!
I’m assured by those who know that Jackson Hole is very pleasant indeed - I hear that some people are staying on for the fishing and other outdoor activities. Jackson Hole is just outside the Grand Teton National Park, which in turn is just south of the Yellowstone National Park - both names to make the spirits rise. So don’t miss this chance of a career - go to the IODC!
the official screed
The International Optical Design Conference (IODC) occurs every 4 years and provides the opportunity for attendees from around the world to interact in a structured and yet informal format. The IODC will cover a wide range of applications and developments throughout the industry, and the conference is conveniently co-located with three other timely topical meetings. A design problem will be proposed in advance of the meeting so that attendee solutions can be presented during one of the sessions (see below for more information).
During the past few years, many areas of optical design have seen rapid development driven by a combination of increased demands on system performance, significant advances in both computing power and design software, and by new manufacturing technologies that offer entirely new engineering options. With such a flourish of activity occurring throughout the optics industry, it becomes imperative for designers, engineers, and scientists to keep up to date with the latest state of the art.
